Paris news August 5th.
The largest crowd of the year was entertained to a great show last night! With a smaller than anticipated rider turnout, a schedule by Duncan Luke to produce a super line up of heats was a treat to see.Unfortunately for the first time this year the St. John's Ambulance was called upon twice this night. Firstly in a very close battle to gain the lead Mark Engel and Corinne Franic came off bend 2 side by side and Corinne grabbed traction which threw her violently against the boards, unable to gain full control she smacked the boards with her head really hard and was out for the night with a mild concussion. Then in the Division 1 final, Nick Fafard was charging like a man possessed after Aaron Hesmer, he too did the same as Corinne and hit the same spot reared upward and flew into the boards. No concussion for him, but a badly bruised body! The racing included some great personal highlights for some riders. Graham Wale won two of his heats and was really delighted with this, Phil Small was in his first Division 1 final of the year and Greg Sim proved that his track time is getting his confidence up and he did some great passing. All the heats throughout the night were well ridden by all. Michael Small was unbeaten all night and took the Division 3 honors in the final. Joe Heye was so unlucky to miss the final following a fall in one of his heats , but came away with the Consi Final win! Aaron Hesmer and John Perry had an interesting heat with John getting a great start and going under Aaron from the inside he pushed him out into the boards and down he went with Joe Heye doing an excellent job of laying his bike down. Unfortunately Aaron was upset and both he and John exchanged words on the track with John leaving Aaron sprayed with dirt upon his departure to re-start the heat. A pissed Aaron Hesmer lined up at the line and rode a very quick heat which he led from start to finish. great to watch!A few riders had bike problems including "Tiger" Tom Marriott, Aaron DeVeau and John Feeney, they all became victims and had to withdraw from the night's events. The Final of Division 2 saw a great battle between Mark Engel and Doug Beaumont. Doug had to wait and hold his line before passing on the inside on lap 3, but he did so and held this to the end to come through the winner. Aaron Hesmer was the Division 1 winner following the Nick Fafard crash, this race was declared complete after the 3 laps due to the crash, Gary Hesmer was second and Phil Small was third.A great night, the track got better and better as the night went on and the crowd went home very happy and satisfied!
