Former World Finalist John Cook was seriously injured at the celebrities race at Washougal MX National in Washington state on Saturday. Injuries include one broken vertabrae, other crushed vertibrae, broken ribs and a possible broken ankle. His back was operated on the following day. His injury took place when he overshot a landing from a jump and landed in a hole, at the side of the track. It is too early to say what the long term effects will be, but he thinks his motorcycle racing days are over. He is currently hospitalized in Vancover, WA.
In recent years John has limited his racing to top US events. Last week he rode in the annual North versus South at Fast Fridays. Last year he rode one round of the AMA US National as well as riding as Johan Karlsson in the US versus the World. In 2002 and 2003 he rode the Costa Mesa National, both times making the main event. John Cook is recovering well from his injuries incurred at the Washougal MX National 9 days ago. Last night he was released from the Vancover, WA hospital and is now back recovering at his family's home in Roseville, CA. He will be continuing his follow up treatment from UC Davis, near Sacramento. He is still in a lot of pain, and its a long road to recovery.
He asked me to thank everyone for their kind get-well wishes, prayers, and messages.
