Welland opener.
Saturday 11th June saw the start of the season at the Niagara motor cycle raceway in Welland. A very grippy but well prepared track (thanks to Mr Len Dillon) saw a low turn out of riders with division one and two being combined to give a total of 9 competitors. Joe Heye was the stand out of the qualifying rounds and saw him go to the final unbeaten and with choice of gates. His choice of 4 would turn out to be the wrong one!! John Keyhoe, always good value for money and reportedly in his last season, was also through to the final with aaron Hesmer. The rest of the riders were forced to run a "last chance qualifier" with Rob Dixon and Jeff orosz being sent to the final and Nick Fafard, Al Chisolm and John Bennett sent to the "B" main. Fafard won this with drew keyhoe, bennett and chisholm next. In the "A" main John left the line first and was pressured by Jeff but he was unmoveable from his position on the pipe and remained in the lead for all 4 laps. Jeff finished second with Aarron Hesmer, Joe Heye followed home by Nick Fafard. A good nights racing. If only there were more riders!! cogeco video tapes of the event are available. contact me!!
