Great event for Kyle!!
SHEFFIELD 58 BERWICK 37. TIGERS warmed up for their Premier League opener at Rye House on Saturday with a comfortable win over Berwick in their first home Premier Trophy encounter. Skipper Andre Compton roared to a paid maximum, and he would have been joined in the unbeaten stakes by Ricky Ashworth but for mechanical problems for Tigers' second heat-leader in the last race. Sheffield were never troubled by the Border outfit as they notched wins in the first four races to open up a 17-7 gap. By the halfway mark they led 32-16, and they would have more points in the bag but for a fall while leading by new boy Emiliano Sanchez and Ashworth's motor trouble in the finale as he looked set to partner Compton to Tigers' fourth 5-1 of the night. Sanchez recovered from his Heat 5 spill, as he overcooked it on the last bend while leading, to bag a victory from the back in Heat 12 as well as claiming two thirds and looks like being a promising acquisition. Canadian Kyle Legault also went close to a maximum, but after winning his first three rides in style he was beaten in Heat 14 as Bandits' Michal Makovsky took advantage of a mix-up between Legault and team-mate Paul Cooper to speed through and take the flag. Ironically it was Berwick's only race win of the night, and it came with Makovsky on a double-point tactical ride. But the win, with Sheffield solid throughout - including a promising home debut for young Benji Compton - will give the team plenty of confidence ahead of Saturday's acid test at Hoddesdon. TIGERS: Andre Compton 14+1, Ricky Ashworth 12, Kyle Legault 11, Benji Compton 6+1, Ben Wilson 6, Emiliano Sanchez 5, Paul Cooper 4+2. BERWICK: Michal Makovsky 13, Adrian Rymel 9, Andreas Bergstrom 8, Lee Smethills 3+1, Danny Warwick 2+1, David Meldrum 1+1, Craig Branney 1.
