Legault to have surgery in U.K.next week!!

All may not be lost for courageous Canadian Kyle Legault in his battle to keep his 2009 season alive. The former Canadian National Champion has travelled back to Sheffield to see Dr Simon Royston about his troublesome leg injury he sustained last year while racing for Birmingham.
“The rod in my leg has bent, but that isn't unusual with this type of injury – that's normal - because it's a load-bearing problem. This has happened over a period of time, and because it's bent it's preventing the bone from bonding together,” he explained.
“I'm going to have another operation, have that rod removed and another bent rod will be put in, but bending the opposite way to straighten the bone. It will take two weeks before I can train again, so I'm hoping to be back on a bike in three months. At the end of the season we'll see about having the rod removed altogether.”
Legault is remaining in England to have the operation on 14 April and then he begins another period of training and physio to be able to ride again this season. But the 23-year-old stressed that this time there won't be any heroics to get back on a bike in time for the Grand Prix qualifier.
“I haven't given up on riding again this season, but I'm not going to rush to get back. Hopefully I've got a long career ahead of me, so I want to take my time because when I finish racing I want to be able to walk okay.”
Royston was the doctor who treated Legault when he broke his wrist in the Grand Prix Challenge meeting in 2007. He was also instrumental in Kyle's headline-making comeback last season, but it seems that the original operation carried out in Birmingham wasn't quite up to the standard required of an international sportsman.
“This has been the problem, as he explained it to me at the time: they opened me up and fixed me with duct tape!” said Legault.
Sounding more upbeat than he has for some time, he hasn't ruled out riding for Poole again.
“Obviously it's disappointing for me, and for Poole, and they have a business to run, but I'd like to think that my career at Poole isn't over,” he said. “Right now, though, I'm focusing on getting my leg fixed, getting fit and hopefully being able to race again in two to three months' time.”
