Tigers on top at home!

SHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS romped to a stunning 63-29 win over a woeful Newcastle side at Owlerton on Thursday and in doing so they have given themselves a massive confidence boost ahead of the return at Brough Park on Sunday when Reg Wilson's men will be looking for maximum points. The margin of the scoreline was a fair reflection of a one-sided meeting which had a sprinkling of good racing as Sheffield won some of their points from the back. Andre Compton - riding against his former club - and Ricky Ashworth were both unbeaten by Diamonds riders and reserve Kyle Legault dropped only one point in a spectacular performance. Beleaguered visiting boss George English tried to stop the rot by nominating both Josef Franc and James Birkinshaw for tactical rides, but on both occasions they could find no answer to the supremacy of Sheffield who finished first and second for 5-2 race wins. Maximum men Ashworth and Compton rounded the meeting off in style for the home side with a scorching 5-1 in Heat 15 with Franc and Jamie Robertson well back. TIGERS: Andre Compton 15, Ricky Ashworth 14+1, Kyle Legault 9+2, Ben Wilson 8+1, Richard Hall 7+2, Sean Wilson 7+1, Paul Cooper 3+1. NEWCASTLE: James Birkinshaw 14+1, Josef Franc 10, Jamie Robertson 4, Kristian Lund 1, Lubos Tomicek 0, James Grieves 0.
