Lego-go's run continues!!

Bjarne Pedersen took victory in the first Grand Prix qualifying semi-final at Lonigo on Saturday (7 July). But fellow current GP man Jarek Hampel missed out on a top eight place after scoring seven points, and therefore needs to make significant progress in this year's series to assure his place for next year.
Pedersen scored 11 points in Italy, the same as Krzysztof Kasprzak, and he then won a run-off for overall meeting victory. Third place also went to a run-off between three fast-emerging riders as Damian Balinski defeated Denis Gizatullin and Tobias Kroner. Ex-GP man Lukas Dryml overcame two exclusions to win his other three rides to score nine, and Canadian youngster Kyle Legault continued his run in the competition with eight.
The final place was taken by Aussie veteran Steve Johnston, who won his last ride and then followed Legault home in the run-off which saw Charlie Gjedde miss out and finish in the reserve position. Along with Hampel, Chris Holder had been expected to qualify - but he fell in his first ride and scored just one point from his opening three outings. Wins in his last two rides were not enough to take him through.
Also eliminated were Jurica Pavlic, Mikael Max, Tomasz Gapinski, Richard Hall and Mattia Carpanese - and when Carpanese was injured in Heat 5, reserve David Howe also crashed out with Dryml in the re-run and suffered a broken collarbone. Kyle now moves on to Demark in September and the last meeting before he qualifies for the 2008 World Grand Prix. As an added bonus Kyle has just gone top of the Mildehall team averages!!
