Tigers win at home!!
Mildenhall Fen Tigers got their Premier Trophy season off to the perfect start with a 54-38 victory over Somerset Rebels at West Row on Sunday.
After three heats, the Tigers were trailling by four points. However, this marked a fight-back by the hosts in what became an eventful clash. Mario Jirout and Shaun Tacey hauled the Suffolk side back into contention after recording a maximum 5-1 win in heat six. Kyle Legault and Jamie Smith followed this success with another 5-1 triumph in heat nine, giving Mildenhall a 10- point lead. Heat 13 saw a pile up at the first bend and the hosts took advantage of the rerun with a 5-0 win. Controversy was sparked in heat 14 after Somerset's Zetterstrom collided with Jamie Smith. The home rider showed his anger at the aggression from his West Country opponent. The controversy continued in the pits, and among the crowd, as the race was rerun with Zetterstrom excluded.This time, Jason King and Smith raced home unscathed, obtaining a crucial 5-1 win.The final heat saw Legault tie up a Tigers' victory following a 3-3 draw.Talking about the controversey in heat 14, co-promoter Simon Barton said, "Although we understand that emotions can run high during controversial moments of a meeting, we do ask both supporters and riders to try and remain calm." Team manager Laurence Rogers knows the threat posed by this Sunday's visitors."It looks like being a tough weekend for us," he said."Rye House are many people's favourites for honours this season and we know they pose a significant threat."They have a solid side with the sensational 16-year-old Tai Woffinden in reserve, but we are ready for them and we are looking for another strong performance from the team."
