Kyle at home (Sheffield) tonight

ROBBIE Kessler returns to the Sheffield Pirtek Tigers line-up for their Premier League clash with Isle of Wight Islanders at Owlerton on Thursday 7.45 gmt (2.45 et).Kessler, a Sheffield asset, is currently on loan at Stoke and will deputise for injured skipper Sean Wilson.Sheffield have a tough task on their hands as the Islanders were in town recently for a Knockout Cup tie and did well.Craig Boyce, the former Grand Prix star, is one of the Premier League's top performers and is in his second season with the Islanders.Krister Marsh was at Owlerton only last week when he made a guest appearance for Belle Vue and looked very impressive - and Glen Phillips has also done well at Owlerton in the past. Kyle Legault makes his home return after recovering from a badly broken foot - and he is relishing the prospect. Legault said: "I'm looking forward to this meeting, it will be great to be back riding at Owlerton in front of the Tigers fans."I raced in a junior meeting here last week and came through fine and the last time I rode here before my injury I scored double figures. Hopefully I can do the same against the Islanders."I would like to thank everyone for their support during my injury and I hope to repay them with a good performance on my home return."TIGERS: Robbie Kessler, Paul Cooper, Ricky Ashworth, Richard Hall R/R, Andre Compton, Ben Wilson, Kyle Legault.ISLE OF WIGHT: Craig Boyce, Glen Phillips, Krister Marsh, Ulrich Ostergaard, Tomas Suchanek, Jason Doyle, Steen Jensen

excellent return for Kyle at Reading.

SHEFFIELD'S away day blues continued with a 56-37 Premier League defeat at Reading - but they did win the aggregate bonus point. Guest Emil Kramer, in for injured skipper Sean Wilson, proved to be an inspired choice as he reeled off four wins in his 12-point haul and was only denied a full house when he was excluded under the two-minute rule. This also proved more costly as the Swede had been nominated for double points under the tactical ride rule. Andre Compton joined Kramer at the head of the scoring charts and his 13+1 score included six-points when winning a tactical ride. He also teamed up with Kramer for a welcome 5-1 in Heat 13 which just about put the bonus point in the bag. Reserve Kyle Legault looked impressive after two months on the sidelines with a broken foot and he can feel satisfied with his return.READING: Matt Tressarrieau 12+5, Richard Wolff 12+1, Matej Zagar 12, Andrew Appleton 11, Zdenek Simota 7+3, Chris Johnson 2.TIGERS: Andre Compton 13+1, Emil Kramer 12, Kyle Legault 7, Ben Wilson 4+2, Ricky Ashworth 1, Paul cooper 0.

Another scorcer at Paris

Friday nights in Paris get better and better every week! The weather was absolutely awesome, rider turnout was great and the crowd was brilliant. The racing, witnessed ,was a mixed bag of everything, no spectacular accidents this week and, luckily, no injuries to report. Only 3 riders fell all night with no injuries to report on, which is great! A special note though has to be made regarding Shawn Morrison, riding in D1. His effort was outstanding and his sportsmanship was even better. During one heat he fell twice due to a very slick track, and both times, very sportingly reacted quickly and effectively to remove himself out of the racing line to allow the race to be completed. Great job! There was some very close racing, especially in D2, between Corinne Franic, Mark Engel and Doug Beaumont. Doug was unable to do the double tonight over Corinne and she made certain of a very good D2 final win on the night. A local lad from Paris who came to try out the sport ended the night winning the D3 final, congratulations to him and our apologies for not having his correct name available at the time of this report, but he did a spectacular job in keeping "Tiger" Tom behind him for most of the night! Keep your eyes peeled for this as I am sure that he will be a regular fixture at Paris every Friday. Division 1 was superb also, Jeff Orosz, Gary and Aaron Hesmer, Joe Heye, Nick Fafard, and others put on an amazing display of controlled speedway. The close racing and pure talent these guys have is a pure delight to watch week in and week out. The final was not going to disappoint anyone! Nick Fafard took the bull by the horns and whipped out the magic and cruised to a win, with Aaron Hesmer, Jeff Orosz and Joe Heye battling it out behind him, he made his return to Paris look very good! Our commiseration's go out to Joe Heye who on a magnificent run to gain a place had his chain break mid turn and he went down hard. He was OK but a little p*@#ed off!Once again we offer our sincere thank you to all our US riders who take the long journey to Paris on Friday night's and we can't tell them enough how much we really appreciate them for this! Great job guys! Thanks is also offered to everyone who once again came and volunteered their time and efforts to keep the show running, and also to the crowd for cheering on their favorite riders and making the night, a one to remember! Second event at Welland.

John Kehoe in action at Welland on the 18th June. John, who made the D 1 final, couldn't make it 2 for 2 as the night belonged to Jeff Orosz with a great effort in the heats and a superb final win. Credit also to Nick Fafard who was definatly on the pace and pushed Jeff over the line in the final with his front wheel!!! the gap was that small! Aarron Hesmer and Rob Dixon also made the final. Nice to see Merle Craven up from the states and "up to speed." Thanks again to Len Dillon for making a track that you could hadrly walk on in to a very good racing surface!! John Bennett won D 2

Great night at Paris!

Friday night has once again come and gone at Paris Speedway. But this one was a cracker of a night. With a great rider turnout especially thanks to our American friends, we had a superb night of racing with some great highlights, but sadly with some personal lows for a few.The evening started off with a BANG!!!! A Division 3 race started with Paul Martin, Graham Wale and Michael Small all tussling for the front spot at the first corner, with Michael on the inside and Paul on the outside, poor Graham had nowhere to go but down, thus causing Paul Martin to lift violently and he careered through the boards narrowly missing an upright pole. After a visit from the St. John's Ambulance, he was very shaken and bruised but not badly hurt. Then on the restart Graham Wale ended the night with another bad fall which left him badly bruised and battered. On the 3rd restart Michael Small looped in the corner and fell leaving a lone Krys Chudyk to win the heat. Some close racing was seen by all on a wet and bumpy track, turn 4 became a problem with a big rut appearing which proved to be a tricky obstacle for many riders to beat.Phil Small pulled a beauty out of the bag as well as Mark Priebe, with them both doing an excellent job of racing through the pack to finish well. Phil winning his heat and Mark pulling a great second place after starting from the 15 yard penalty line for breaking the tapes.Aaron Hesmer was flying like the wind tonight in his early heats, finishing nearly 1/2 a lap ahead in one heat! Unfortunately for him though, this week was not a #3 final win for him. Joe Heye was finding the pace just off this week and only managed a personally disappointing consi final place which he won comfortably. The finals of the night were won in Division 3 by Bart Moskala, he had some good tussles with Michael Small throughout the night and did very well, and he deserved to raise his winning flag. Nice job!Division 2 final was a cracker, all night Corrine Franic had the boys banging into her and were chasing her down. The final was no different. Doug Beaumont tussled and passed Corinne, as she worked to keep Mark Priebe behind her. Doug did a great job in his win tonight and rode the track perfectly in its condition.Nick Fafard won the Division 1 final in amazing style. He was not the best off the line but wow! He took the bull by the horns and powered by both Aaron Hesmer and Jeff Orosz to take a superb win! The best save and probably taking the 'Highlight of the night' award, was Jeff Orosz. The rut on turn 4 which was previously mentioned, caught Jeff off guard and his front wheel lifted high into the night and Jeff powered the bike straight toward the fence which had the whole place taking a deep breath, he somehow, god knows how, threw himself at the fence and bounced off as if nothing had happened! Absolutely brilliant stuff to see.Despite the night being cool, the large crowd who included many from the Vintage Bike Rally, witnessed some good tussles and enjoyed a good night. It was very nice to hear two guys leaving say "What a great night of racing!" Glad to hear this and we hope they will come back again to see more!Remember, "Same time - Same place - Next week."Don't miss it!Well done everyone for a great show tonight!

Welland opener.

Saturday 11th June saw the start of the season at the Niagara motor cycle raceway in Welland. A very grippy but well prepared track (thanks to Mr Len Dillon) saw a low turn out of riders with division one and two being combined to give a total of 9 competitors. Joe Heye was the stand out of the qualifying rounds and saw him go to the final unbeaten and with choice of gates. His choice of 4 would turn out to be the wrong one!! John Keyhoe, always good value for money and reportedly in his last season, was also through to the final with aaron Hesmer. The rest of the riders were forced to run a "last chance qualifier" with Rob Dixon and Jeff orosz being sent to the final and Nick Fafard, Al Chisolm and John Bennett sent to the "B" main. Fafard won this with drew keyhoe, bennett and chisholm next. In the "A" main John left the line first and was pressured by Jeff but he was unmoveable from his position on the pipe and remained in the lead for all 4 laps. Jeff finished second with Aarron Hesmer, Joe Heye followed home by Nick Fafard. A good nights racing. If only there were more riders!! cogeco video tapes of the event are available. contact me!!

Paris results

Tonights second race at Paris was hit by the threat of inclement weather. Showers in the area between 6.30 and 7.30 just wetted the track surface but made for a gaters track. Only 14 riders took part. Nice to see Mark Engle make the trip up from his Michegan home for the first time this season. D one had 6 riders and was again Aarron Hesmers night with Joe Heye and Nick Fafard second and third. D 2 was Corrine Franic's!! she was the winner of the final with Doug Beaumont second and Marc Engle a faller. D 3 was a familiar story with Micheal Small being the best of the rest and was the only rider able to take his place in the D 3 final. New rider Peter Fornel was a faller in his first ride in d 3 of the night. A damaged shoulder stopped him taking part in the rest of the nights D 3 races. Tonight is the Welland season opener with practice at 5.30 and racing set to start, prompt, at 7.00. forecast is for 30% p.o.p and a chance of a thunderstorm but no rain in the area since Thursday. Good luck to all for this race. Pics and a report on sunday.

The Dark horse closed the gap to a bike length on the last lap. Merle Craven was the "come-back kid" after nearly a whole year with injurys and looked very solid all night on a fairly rough surface. The big bash of the night was the B main. All of these guys could have been in the A main but for a few strokes of bad luck and were all over each other for 4 laps after 2 restarts. Donavan and I hope to improve the poor surface at Action Park as time and money permit. Next race: JUNE 18.Thanks for your comments...Dave Richards

Welland practice today.

The weather here in the Niagara area has been dry all week. Today however the sky is dark and gloomy. Sign-in for practice is 1pm and start time is 3pm. If it stays dry, however, the track should be in great shape so long as track staff have read the weather and watered accordingly. Update at 12 noon. Meanwhile see Paris opener details below. As of 12noon there has been still no rain here in the falls!!
