Great night at Paris!!

With a smaller than anticipated rider turnout, Duncan Luke once again produced a cracker program for a larger than normal crowd at Paris Speedway. Many riders came out on a beautiful night to give their all and it was great to see a few have a superb night personally.Young 14 year old Michael Small, once again dominated the Division 3 racing, despite some great riding from "Tiger" Tom Marriott who was going so fast in one race his goggles flew off! Michael again improved his points lead by winning the main D3 main event. Peter Fornal every week is getting better and better in his pace and control, looking very smooth, he is gaining slowly and even produced some super passing moves on another youngster Ryan Broda. Ryan's bike definitely helped keep the track clear of mosquitos with the smoke from his bike last night! LOL! But they all did a great job and congratulations to Michael Small for another unbeaten night of racing!Division 2 saw an aggressive Corinne Franic desperate to get her points back from arch enemy Doug Beaumont. Again this week, they produced some great duels and if you add Mark Priebe, our good friend Chris Houtby and Bart Moskala into the frame, then you had a nice blend of good talent all out to prove their own skill. The Final D2 event was great, Corinne led for the first lap, but Doug ran round her on turn 3-4 and came off ahead, which he increased and held to the end. These riders really have put some great races together this year! Nice Job everyone!Division 1 saw many faces who had come to win. Points leader Aaron Hesmer once again won the night, but not without a fight! Cousin Gary Hesmer proved to be a thorn in his side this night, Gary every race kept Aaron tight until he could get away, Nick Fafard and Joe Heye also gave Aaron a real run for his money. Returning rider to Paris, Rob Dixon also rode very well and enjoyed a welcomed return with a Consi Final win ahead of the two great rivals, John Perry and Phil Small. These two every race they compete in, always draw a gasp from the crowd in anticipation of what is too come! The track was superb and thanks to both Dave Havill and Alex Wilson, the surface was smooth and gave the riders some great grip.Another successful night of racing and with just 3 more to go at Paris, we look forward to a great weekend next week.Look out right here at this website for more info!Great night of speedway, thank you to everyone involved!

Sheffield win at home...

ANDRE Compton scored his third successive full maximum at Owlerton as the Pirtek Tigers moved back into the Premier League's top three. Compton blasted to five straight wins to head a solid performace from the home side, with Workington struggling to provide enough heat winners to mount a challenge. Reserves Paul Cooper and Kyle Legault set the ball rolling with a 5-1 in a re-run Heat 2 after new Comets signing Tomasz Piszcz had been excluded, and the fast-improving Legault then defeated British prospect James Wright for another 5-1 in Heat 4. After Heat 7 Tigers held a 14-point lead, but Shaun Tacey managed to pull three back by winning a tactical ride in the next race. However, the home side then piled on the pressure with a 5-1 and a 4-2 in the next two races seeing them establish total control, Sean Wilson reeling in and passing Kauko Nieminen on the final lap of Heat 10. The second tactical ride saw guest Stuart Robson take four points after he had been eclipsed by Compton in Heat 11, and Tigers then produced a strong finish which could be important when they travel to Workington for the return fixture. There was a scare in Heat 14 when Cooper fell and Richard Hall managed to lay down his machine to avoid him, but the home fans were able to enjoy 5-1s in both Heat 13 and 15 as Compton and Sean Wilson got the better of the ever-trying Robson to open up a 23-point winning margin. SHEFFIELD: Andre Compton 15, Ricky Ashworth 11, Sean Wilson 10+4, Ben Wilson 6, Kyle Legault 6+3, Richard Hall 6+2, Paul Cooper 3. WORKINGTON: Stuart Robson 11, Shaun Tacey 11, Kauko Nieminen 6+1, Tomasz Piszcz 4, James Wright 3, Benji Compton 1, r/r for Scott Robson.

Last heat decider!!

THE Pirtek Tigers were beaten in a last-heat decider at Brough Park on a good day for the other Premier League title chasers. A last heat Newcastle 5-1 ended Sheffield's hopes of snatching a draw, with rivals Berwick and King's Lynn both winning away and Rye House taking two home victories in a double header. The action on Tyneside was close throughout, and it took until Heat 9 for either side to register a 5-1, Josef Franc and Lubos Tomicek obliging for the home side to put them four points up. But Tigers hit back two races later as Newcastle's James Grieves crashed out of second place, allowing Ben Wilson to team up with namesake Sean, who was unbeaten at that stage, for a match-levelling 5-1. When the teams met at Owlerton on Thursday it was Tigers asset James Birkinshaw who had starred at reserve for the Diamonds, but on this occasion their lower-order bite was supplied by an impressive Jamie Robertson and he overtook Ricky Ashworth in Heat 12 as Newcastle edged two points ahead. By this stage, the aggregate bonus point was well in the bag for Sheffield, but they really needed the away win. Grieves, however, thwarted them in Heat 13 by becoming the first rider to beat Sean Wilson and Robertson then won again in the next race with Tomicek's third place meaning that Tigers could not win the match. A 5-1 was required for a draw, but those prospects receeded dramatically when Sean Wilson, going for a flying start from gate 3, broke the tapes and was excluded. Grieves won his fourth race of the night and was followed by team-mate Franc as the Diamonds ended up with a slightly flattering eight-point winning margin. NEWCASTLE: Jamie Robertson 15+1, James Grieves 12, Josef Franc 11+2, Lubos Tomicek 6+1, Kristian Lund 4+2, James Birkinshaw 1, r/r for Phil Morris. TIGERS: Sean Wilson 11, Ricky Ashworth 11, Andre Compton 5+2, Ben Wilson 5+1, Richard Hall 4+1, Kyle Legault 3+1, Paul Cooper 2.
AWAY WIN VITALSunday, August 21, 2005By Nigel PearsonSHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS aim to keep the pressure on title favourites Rye House and Berwick when they go to Newcastle tonight (5.30).The Owlerton side are in a commanding position for the aggregate bonus point after a 63-29 thumping of the Diamonds in the home meeting on Thursday.Tigers are unchanged from that meeting and an away win would put them firmly in the frame for the title race.Sheffield co-boss Neil Machin said: "It's an important meeting for us and we have to go into it with a positive attitude."Our lads are buzzing after Thursday night and hopefully we can build on that by winning at Brough Park tonight."TIGERS: Sean Wilson, Ben Wilson, Ricky Ashworth, Richard Hall, Andre Compton, Paul Cooper, Kyle Legault.

Tigers on top at home!

SHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS romped to a stunning 63-29 win over a woeful Newcastle side at Owlerton on Thursday and in doing so they have given themselves a massive confidence boost ahead of the return at Brough Park on Sunday when Reg Wilson's men will be looking for maximum points. The margin of the scoreline was a fair reflection of a one-sided meeting which had a sprinkling of good racing as Sheffield won some of their points from the back. Andre Compton - riding against his former club - and Ricky Ashworth were both unbeaten by Diamonds riders and reserve Kyle Legault dropped only one point in a spectacular performance. Beleaguered visiting boss George English tried to stop the rot by nominating both Josef Franc and James Birkinshaw for tactical rides, but on both occasions they could find no answer to the supremacy of Sheffield who finished first and second for 5-2 race wins. Maximum men Ashworth and Compton rounded the meeting off in style for the home side with a scorching 5-1 in Heat 15 with Franc and Jamie Robertson well back. TIGERS: Andre Compton 15, Ricky Ashworth 14+1, Kyle Legault 9+2, Ben Wilson 8+1, Richard Hall 7+2, Sean Wilson 7+1, Paul Cooper 3+1. NEWCASTLE: James Birkinshaw 14+1, Josef Franc 10, Jamie Robertson 4, Kristian Lund 1, Lubos Tomicek 0, James Grieves 0.

Collecting his trophy,Quebecs, Nick Fafard after his very impressive win at the Dean Bencsics 3rd annual memorial.

Oh what a night!!!

On a hot and very humid Saturday evening, a racing night was to be presented for the first time by 'Speedy Race Promotions' and what a job they did!A huge rider turnout and a whopper of a crowd, provided a perfect blend for a night of lots of great looking thrills and spills. In the first race of the day, 14 year old Michael Small came out to show that he means business! Flying from last place after a bad start, he worked his skill to gain 1st place and win well, great start to the night! Second heat saw the infamous #13 Bart Moskala come out and dominate a great race to win well, Bart looks very smooth and controlled in his Division 2 upward move.In heat 3 another 14 year old came on the track, a lovely girl rider from the USA, her name, Katlin Davis. Looking confident at the gate, she had a great start from the inside line, Mark Priebe, Doug Beaumont and Tim Murray all took off together and then disaster!!!! Katlin clips Priebe's back wheel on turn 2 and loses complete control of her bike, her front wheel violently lifted causing her to go careering through the boards and she somersaulted over the safety fence and landed only feet from a spectators vehicle. We all held our breath and waited to see what the outcome would be, memories of Paul Martin's crash earlier in the season at the same spot leaving him with broken ribs was in our minds, but miraculously, she was not only able to walk unaided back to the pits, but she rode another 5 heats throughout the night, but she did go down again a few times, once being hit by Joanne Edwards who also hit the boards hard! This girl is made of rubber, she just kept getting up and rode on! AMAZING!Mark Priebe and Doug Beaumont fought and battled again, carrying on from Friday's tussles and showing the great improvement they both have gained over the past year, great to see!Heat 10 saw "Tiger" Tom come out and join in one of the 'Veteran' class races. Tom on the outside gate decided to do an impression of his buddy Graham Wale and looped up at the start. Shaken but not stirred, "Tiger" grabbed another bike and rode again. He did however discover that he had hurt his knee and did have to pull up in one later heats due to the pain! The Veteran races were exciting to watch, qualification was to be over 40 years old for this event, and John Perry and Greg Comstock spent the night battling it out, The final race was a cracker, John Perry pulled his usual excellent start and pulled ahead, but Greg tussled and came under John on bend 4 and took the lead. This he kept to the end, proving that his head was clear and focused after his Friday night clash with Phil Small. Nice to see this racing at an event like this!We had our 'Weslake' Challenge matches also last night. Many riders tried these beautiful machines and some good racing was has by all. The final win was taken by Phil Small aboard his beauty (picture left). The old girl pulled hard enabling Phil to be a winner over Nick Fafard! In one heat both Father Small and Son Small were out on 2 Weslakes, Michael took a flying start, but sadly had mechanical failure on the back straight!Hard Division 1 racing with Steve Glasgow and Jeff Orosz saw a cracker of a heat, Steve Glasgow was on fire this night and with Jeff Orosz holding a tight line alongside Steve for 3 laps, we saw Jeff pull slightly ahead which left Steve no option but to drive hard at Jeff. Steve went down hard and smashed into the fence hurting his left wrist. Sadly his night was over, but what a great race to watch! Steve also had some great tussles with Joe Heye which left the crowd gasping with some unbelievable moves by both riders! The final races of the night came down to some crackers! In Division 3 with two hot riders both out for victory. Sean Trendelle and Michael Small both wanted this win. From the start Michael drew first blood, pulling away on turn one he parked it mid-turn on 2 and sean went down, they restarted and Michael once again pulled away to win very comfortably!Division 2 was a very interesting race! Corrine Franic was victim to two accidents in this race. She went down in turn one and twisted her wrist and scraped her lower arm, she restarted the race and from 15 yards back she came through in 2 laps to again fall on turn one, scraping her arm, leg and tummy through her leathers, Mark Priebe caught her as she twisted on the track and laid his bike down very well to avoid any further problems. The race was comfortably being led by Bart Moskala when it was stopped. In the 2nd re-run, Doug Beaumont saw and grabbed his opportunity to win and won by a good margin! The Division 1 Consi Final was Run without incident with Joe Heye coming out the winner.Division 1 - The final highlight of the night was a cracker. An injured Nick Fafard, once again showed why he is so focused on his speedway future. Nick Fafard, Aaron Hesmer, Jeff Orosz and Brian Hollenbeck lined up to provide the end to a 41 heat race program! Each guy was fast and furious on the night, alot was riding in prize money and self pride! They lined up and from the tapes Jeff Orosz took a lead into the first turn, Nick swooped underneath causing Aaron Hemser to hook up and drop back to 4th. Nick powered by Jeff on the back straight and took the lead, Aaron was pushing hard and passed Hollenbeck on lap 2, Nick was leading pursued by Jeff, who in turn was being hunted by Aaron. Aaron took a few goes at Jeff and on the final bend nearly wiped out trying so hard, but was unable to get Jeff. So Nick Fafard was the official champion of the night. A superb job by him, a superb job by John Perry and Shawn Morrison of Speedy Race Promotions, and a brilliant job by all the volunteers and riders for putting on a show that will go down in Canadian speedway history as one of the best!God bless Dean Bencsics, we owe him this night in celebration of his life with us, and we hope that we did him proud!
D.B.M 2005 winner Nick Fafard

Big win and great night for Kyle!!

SHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS produced their best performance of the season to crush title hopefuls Rye House 64-30 at Owlerton. Going into the meeting they needed to win by more than 29-points to secure the aggregate bonus point - and they achieved it with a thrilling finish. Going into the final four heats the Rockets trailed 45-25 on the night but held a nine point advantage for the bonus. The Tigers pulled two back as Ricky Ashworth sped from second to pass Tommy Allen and then the lively Kyle Legault overtook Brent Werner to give them a fighting chance. A 5-1 from Andre Compton and Sean Wilson then put them in the frame, before a spectacular heat 14 put them ahead on aggregate for the first time. Tigers had been on for a 4-2 before the race was stopped on the second lap when Allen fell - and in the restart Daniel King shot from the tapes and looked set for a crucial win, but his bike ground to a halt on the last bend and allowed Richard Hall and Legault in for another heat maximum. It meant Sheffield needed to at least draw heat 15,(for the aggregate point) but Compton made an amazing burst from last to first while Sean Wilson claimed second to spark jubilant scenes on the terraces. TIGERS: A. Compton 15, R. Ashworth 12, B. Wilson 11+1, K. Legault 10+3, S. Wilson 9+3, R. Hall 4, P. Cooper 3+1. RYE HOUSE: S. Robson 11, D. King 8, T. Allen 5, E. Kennett 4+2, B. Werner 1+1, C. The event was not that well attended for the amount of work input, but it was evident that every rider put 100% into the race effort. The competition and team stratogy that the fans saw Saturday night took US Speedway to a higher level for a brief moment and the Riders should be commended for that effort. Thanks to the volunter Scorers, track personel, and announcers that made it happen. Score chart file will be posted soon on EastUSAspeedway Yahoo Group.Regards, Dave Richards

Paris news August 5th.

The largest crowd of the year was entertained to a great show last night! With a smaller than anticipated rider turnout, a schedule by Duncan Luke to produce a super line up of heats was a treat to see.Unfortunately for the first time this year the St. John's Ambulance was called upon twice this night. Firstly in a very close battle to gain the lead Mark Engel and Corinne Franic came off bend 2 side by side and Corinne grabbed traction which threw her violently against the boards, unable to gain full control she smacked the boards with her head really hard and was out for the night with a mild concussion. Then in the Division 1 final, Nick Fafard was charging like a man possessed after Aaron Hesmer, he too did the same as Corinne and hit the same spot reared upward and flew into the boards. No concussion for him, but a badly bruised body! The racing included some great personal highlights for some riders. Graham Wale won two of his heats and was really delighted with this, Phil Small was in his first Division 1 final of the year and Greg Sim proved that his track time is getting his confidence up and he did some great passing. All the heats throughout the night were well ridden by all. Michael Small was unbeaten all night and took the Division 3 honors in the final. Joe Heye was so unlucky to miss the final following a fall in one of his heats , but came away with the Consi Final win! Aaron Hesmer and John Perry had an interesting heat with John getting a great start and going under Aaron from the inside he pushed him out into the boards and down he went with Joe Heye doing an excellent job of laying his bike down. Unfortunately Aaron was upset and both he and John exchanged words on the track with John leaving Aaron sprayed with dirt upon his departure to re-start the heat. A pissed Aaron Hesmer lined up at the line and rode a very quick heat which he led from start to finish. great to watch!A few riders had bike problems including "Tiger" Tom Marriott, Aaron DeVeau and John Feeney, they all became victims and had to withdraw from the night's events. The Final of Division 2 saw a great battle between Mark Engel and Doug Beaumont. Doug had to wait and hold his line before passing on the inside on lap 3, but he did so and held this to the end to come through the winner. Aaron Hesmer was the Division 1 winner following the Nick Fafard crash, this race was declared complete after the 3 laps due to the crash, Gary Hesmer was second and Phil Small was third.A great night, the track got better and better as the night went on and the crowd went home very happy and satisfied!

Tigers beat Stoke

THE Pirtek Tigers eased to a comfortable win over Stoke at Owlerton on Thursday night, although the presence of Paul Thorp in the visitors' ranks ensured plenty of interest.Thorp was guesting for Jan Staechmann and put in a strong performance along with former Tiger Robbie Kessler to save the Potters from a heavy defeat as Sheffield gave a solid all-round team effort.Tigers started the meeting with a string of heat advantages to open up a 14-point lead, but Thorp stopped the rot with a fine ride to pass both Sean and Ben Wilson in Heat 6.The Hull skipper then won his tactical ride in Heat 9 after the visitors had fallen 20 points down - and Kessler added another six-pointer later in the meeting.Adam Allott did not have such a happy return to Owlerton as he broke the tapes in his first two rides and had to go off the 15m handicap, although he did finish with a win as Andre Compton suffered engine failure in Heat 11.Tigers then piled on the pressure with two consecutive 5-1s only for the vistors to pull five points back with a 7-2 in Heat 14, and Thorp then had the final word over Compton and Sean Wilson in the last race.Even so, in their current form Tigers will be highly optimistic of taking the aggregate bonus point in the return fixture at Loomer Road on Saturday. TIGERS: Sean Wilson 11+1, Ricky Ashworth 11, Andre Compton 9+2, Kyle Legault 8+2, Ben Wilson 7+1, Paul Cooper 6, Richard Hall 4+2. STOKE: Paul Thorp 14, Robbie Kessler 12, Alan Mogridge 5, Adam Allott 4, Barrie Evans 3, Paul Clews 2, Jack Hargreaves 0.

Stoke at Sheffield, tonight.

SHEFFIELD PIRTEK TIGERS aim to continue their push for a top three Premier League place when they face Stoke at Owlerton on Thursday. The two sides once again meet in the first week of August in memory of former Tigers co-promoter Tim Lucking, who also had close links with Stoke prior to his tragic death nine years ago. After a welcome away win over Newport on Sunday, Sheffield are in good heart and will start the meeting as clear favourites. But the Potters include riders with plenty of Owlerton experience as three of their team are ex-Tigers!Alan Mogridge had a brief spell with the club 10-years ago and both Adam Allott and Robbie Kessler started their British careers at Owlerton. And further spice has been added to the meeting with the fact that the visitors have booked Hull skipper Paul Thorp to guest for the injured Jan Staechmann.Thorp has frequently been a controversial character over the years and is assured of a warm welcome from the Owlerton faithful!Sheffield co-promoter Neil Machin said: “Stoke will be fast and competitive and we will be taking nothing for granted.“And after the postponement of last Thursday’s meeting at home to Berwick it will be good to get back into action in front of our home fans.”Sheffield are unchanged from the team which demolished Newport in South Wales at the weekend.SHEFFIELD: Sean Wilson, Ben Wilson, Ricky Ashworth, Richard Hall, Andre Compton, Paul Cooper, Kyle Legault. STOKE: Alan Mogridge, Adam Allott, Paul Clews, Robbie Kessler, Paul Thorp, Barrie Evans, Jack Hargreaves.

Tigers win in Wales

TIGERS banished their away-day blues with a convincing victory in South Wales on Sunday lunchtime. With the aggregate bonus point also secured, the Owlerton outfit are now right on the heels of the Premier League leaders and able to look forward to the rest of the campaign with optimism. All three heat leaders were on good form at the Hayley Stadium - exactly the area of the team where Newport struggled, although the home side did get off to a good start when Danish newcomer Henrik Vedel beat Sean Wilson to win Heat 1.That began a run of four consecutive shared heats, but it was the events of Heat 7 which turned the match significantly in Sheffield's favour.Tigers went into the race with a two point lead thanks to a 4-2 in Heat 5, but a second race win for the impressive Ricky Ashworth was backed up by second spot for Richard Hall in a 5-1 - and Newport lost the services of star man Mads Korneliussen who aggravated an existing shoulder injury and took no further part in the meeting. That meant Tigers were always favourites to pull clear in the closing stages, despite the considerable efforts of veteran Neil Collins who again belied his years and deprived Ashworth of a maximum by winning Heat 12.But Wilson and Andre Compton virtually guaranteed an away win with a 5-1 in Heat 13, and Hall and Kyle Legault confirmed the result by teaming up for maximum points in the penultimate race as Newport used Lee Dicken for double points.Dicken had beaten both Sean and Ben Wilson in Heat 11 as the Wasps reserves had a busy afternoon, with the home side also having to cover for the absent Michael Coles with rider replacement.Tigers, however, had strength all the way through the order and promoter Neil Machin will be pleased that there were no slip-ups on a day when the team performed at a high standard throughout. NEWPORT: Neil Collins 11+1, Tony Atkin 8, Lee Dicken 7+1, Henrik Vedel 6+2, Mads Korneliussen 3, Karlis Ezergailis 3, r/r for Michael Coles. TIGERS: Andre Compton 12+1, Sean Wilson 11+1, Ricky Ashworth 10+1, Ben Wilson 6+2, Kyle Legault 6+2, Richard Hall 5+1, Paul Cooper 3+1.
